Formed in 2007, Platforma pentru București [The Platform for Bucharest] was a civic network bringing together around 40 NGOs and specialist organisations working on the sustainable development and transformation of Bucharest. Its members brought together expertise in urban development, cultural heritage, environment, culture, civic participation and decision-making transparency.
In 2008, the Platform translated this collective expertise into a more structured form of civic engagement through the development of the ‘Pact for Bucharest]. Presented to electoral candidates, the Pact put forward concrete proposals and deadlines addressing key urban challenges and called for greater accountability in the city’s development.
By 2009, the Platform had established itself as a multidisciplinary civic network active across environmental protection, heritage preservation, local and cultural development, urban planning and transparent decision-making. It provided a space for civil-society organisations with different areas of expertise to articulate shared concerns and engage collectively in shaping the future of Bucharest.
