Responding to curator Rem Koolhaas’s theme ‘Absorbing Modernity’, Site Under Construction was a Romanian Pavilion project presented at the 14th Venice Architecture Biennale in 2014. The exhibition explored industrial architecture as a generator of modernity, tracing a journey from Romania’s interwar and socialist industrialisation to the post-industrial urban landscapes left in its wake.

As partner and artistic guest, Rhabillage Association contributed a photographic documentary on the Malaxa industrial heritage site in Bucharest, as part of an exhibition examining the condition and transformation of twentieth-century Romanian industrial sites.

The project brought together archival material, contemporary photography and spatial installation to explore the transition from active industrial landscapes to post-industrial urban voids. Rhabillage’s contribution extended its heritage documentation practice into the field of industrial heritage and contemporary artistic interpretation, presenting the Malaxa site within an international architectural and cultural context.
